Ian Weiss, a seasoned digital strategy expert, has significantly contributed to the Tony Awards' online presence as their Digital Producer. He determines and executes overall digital strategies, coordinates with sponsors, and manages the day-to-day partnership with the digital agency. Weiss oversees social media strategy and content creation, focusing on Instagram during the off-season and managing comprehensive campaigns during the Tony season. In event production, he produces on-site video content for the Nominee Press Junket and manages digital initiatives on Tony Night, including backstage and red carpet activations. Weiss liaises with CBS Digital, White Cherry, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Giphy to ensure seamless execution of digital content and integration into the telecast. Additionally, he oversees the online application process for the Education Award, creating and maintaining the application portal, handling communications, and developing marketing strategies to boost engagement.
Ian Weiss has developed digital strategy and content for Broadway, off-Broadway, and Live Entertainment over the last 16 years at the American Theatre Wing, Serino Coyne, and Art Meets Commerce. He has won two Webby Awards for his social strategy on the 2015 Tony Awards and a 2022 Webby Honoree for his work on the Tony Awards First Impressions Cam. In addition, he was nominated for Daytime Emmys, Webby Awards, and won several Anthem Awards for producing the long running documentary series, Working in the Theatre.
Currently in his 14th year developing and running digital strategy for the Tony Awards, he has helped to launch live streaming, near live, and shareable content on social media platforms, websites, and in venue.
Weiss produced the documentary Up Heartbreak Hill which premiered on PBS's Point-of-View series in 2011. He has also worked as a Producer and Casting Director for hundreds of television and radio spots.
